Gaits: A show walk, a long-reaching walk that can cover 4 to 8 mph; a show gait, a natural four-beat gait similar to the show walk but faster, covering 10 to 20 mph; and rocking-chair canter. Characteristics: 14.3 to 16 hands high; long, sloping shoulder and hip; fairly short back; short, strong coupling; all colors, but must have white above knees/hocks at least 2” in diameter (other than facial); markings range from minimal to almost solid white, and include overo and tobiano patterns. Where Found: Found mostly in Central and Southern states. Uses: Trail riding; reining; barrel racing; team penning; shows.
